From the chairlift mountain station head south, turn left under the cable car arsenal to the front of the round tower. There is plenty of space, 6 gliders can be laid out next to each other. Nice flat slope, then edge with steep slope towards Finsterbachgraben, which reliably collects the thermals. Hausbart on the eastern boundary of the Finsterbachgraben above the so-called Bergersiedlung.
The starting places are around the stone tower below the mountain station up to the 4-seater chairlift. Ramp for HG in front of the Alpengasthof Pacheiner.
With its view over the Carinthian lakes, Gerlitzen is probably one of the most beautiful paragliding mountains in Austria. The summit plateau offers excellent launch opportunities. Hang gliders will also find a ramp in the area of the Alpengasthof. Flying fun is guaranteed at the Gerlitzen at any time of the year. But also here it is necessary to estimate the wind situation correctly. If there is a strong westerly wind, it is difficult to make progress towards the landing site. It is better to stay on the ground. The same applies to north winds. To get to the landing site, you have to fly over a long ridge before you can turn left towards Annenheim and the landing site at the eastern end of the lake. Attention: at 2,100 meters the entry corridor of the airport in Klagenfurt begins. This is one reason why cross-country flights from Gerlitzen are not too easy. Next to the road in the direction of St. Andrä, you first reach the camping site located on the lake on the left and then the club landing field on the right. A few meters further you will find the flight school and just opposite on the left, the landing area of the flight school. At the flight school, first-time pilots receive a friendly briefing on the terrain. The huge meadow take-off area below the summit station can be reached with the Gerlitzenbahn. It is located at just under 1,900 meters. Alternatively, you can reach the launch site via a toll mountain road from the back of the Gerlitzen.
Attention:
Please note the absolute landing ban on the areas of the Ossiachersee campsite!!!
Unauthorized landing on the beach and meadow areas will be punished by the police!
Note for hang gliders:
There is no official HG-landing place anymore!
Against friendly ask and evt.l a landing fee you can use the tandem landing site, which is also very suitable for HG.
Important:
For cable car transport, the kite must be handed in at the Kanzelbahn the day before.
Alternatively, you can drive up yourself, but the two west-side ascents are currently closed due to storm damage (as of 09/2022). Check with the tourist information office in Annenheim beforehand. The east side ramp does not lead to the starting point.
