Bezau Paragliding Sites

New dragon ramp at the Baumgarten mountain station. One of the few south-facing areas in the Bregenz Forest! If the wind is not right on the "Niederen", you can hike from there to the Bezau launch sites. A cable car takes you up the mountain. The take-off meadows to the east and west of the mountain station can be reached in a few minutes from the mountain station. Due to the southern orientation of the mountain flank, you can expect updrafts early in the year. The large, freely accessible landing site in Bezau is close to the cable car. It is a ten to fifteen minute walk eastwards from the mountain station (sometimes twenty-five minutes in winter). When taking off in a NW direction, fly as close as possible to the slope to the west until you can cross over the ridge or see the Andelsbuch landing site, otherwise there is a risk of sinking into the hollow. A panoramic lift brings guests via 2 sections to a proud 2,060m altitude. The main launch sites are located above the mountain station, next to the radio tower. Another launch site is located at the Diedamsplateau. It is also possible to take off at the middle station. Due to its southern orientation, this mountain is also thermally active early in the year. Very good thermal connections can be found in the direction of Kleinwalsertal, Lechtal and Arlberg. Bregenzer Wald Card: Free of charge for stays of 3 nights or more. With it you can use all public transport and cable cars in the region. For paragliders the first ascent of the day is free with the Bregenzerwald Guest Card, either in Andelsbuch, Bezau or at the Diedamskopf! The Hochgrat used to be very popular, but today the area is somewhat dormant. Yet the Hochgrat has a lot to offer. 1000 m difference in altitude and very attractive scenery. Ascent with the cable car and in a few minutes to the north launch site. Cross-country flights are possible towards midday (Immenstadt). Before you reach the summit, you have a 20-minute walk ahead of you. To be able to take off from the summit, there should be a SE or S wind. CAVE: to get to the landing site (i.e. towards the flatlands) you have to make a decision at the start: Head east and then over the Brunnauscharte into the valley, or head west and over the summit station of the Hochgratbahn into the valley.
