Probably the best PG site in Usambra mountains. The view is even better than from the nearby famous Irente viewpoint. Both for long and beautiful soaring (with S-W winds) or thermalling for long distances. Midday and afternoon should be avoided, morning af later afternoon the best. Soaring better before sunset. (There can be shortly strong winds at the sunset, be aware of that, especially at landing.) Top landing with no strong wind also possible, some 50m from the TO or, a bit further on.
Specially prepared TO area for that. Small, for one wing at a time. But, all southern directions form E to W possible. TO with a light tailwind also fully OK.
Privately owned land. 5 €/USD paraglider fee, 2 €/USD ordinary visitor fee. A simple hut for guests is just some meters from the TO, nightstay possible, contact the site before.
Altitude difference to best landing in Mombo 1000m. Reaching of Mombo is guaranteed even with no thermal conditions.
Best reached by motorbike from Lushoto or, a good 4WD car. Motorbike ride costs you just 2 €/USD. Contact the landowner before ride and ask for weather info, in can be totally different from Lushoto town. Landing is best done in Mombo town, there are several big football fields. Local buses or dalla-dallas bring you back to Lushoto for 2 €/USD.
