Very frequent favourable conditions: northerly winds and valley breezes.
PS With a light southerly wind, if the breeze takes over, the site remains practicable.
When the valley breeze is settled or if the northerly wind is not too strong. The Clamontard site is ideally positioned to face the breeze.
North -also good with NW and NE.Often there is a West component, so the TO is in the lee: watch the different windspies very closely, turn immediately left after launching. To get there: 7 KM to TO:From Luc-en-Diois follow direction Gap (south);after the big rocks and the Drome river bridge, turn right (signs: 'site d'envol').After 2 Km you will see a sign and an unpaved road on your left, follow it till the end.
From Luc in Diois, take the D 93 in the direction of Gap. After Claps, take the road to the right (marked 'site d'envol'). After 3 km, follow a 4 km road to the left that leads to the start.
At the start, the wind often has a westerly component, then you are in a (light) lee: watch out for spooks! Immediately turn left. Above the cliff launch site (Clamontard II) there is often a good climb.

Access by car: From Luc en Diois, take the D93 towards Gap. After "le Claps", turn right onto the route de Salles. After 3 km, turn left onto the runway (4 km) leading to the take-off.
Hiking access: There are several options,
The "frontal" ascent from the landing, to the old rusty electric pylon at the foot of the slope below the take-off. Then take the little-marked, even intermittent "path" on the ridge straight up, following the red ONF markings. Easy climbing in the last 20 meters. Allow 1 hour, but it's steep...
We recommend a gentler ascent, walking along the road towards Poyols. Before you reach a ford with a metal footbridge, turn left onto a forest track which you follow all the way to the top. At the last bend, leave the track and take the final path. The "de la brèche" passage is now equipped with a handrail. Climbing time approx. 1h15.
