Baba Mountain, a gift of our beautiful country, is the temple of the paragliding community and at the same time, Baba Mountain, which has unique flight features where people who are not interested in this sport or who are not interested in this sport meet with the sky.
If we need to mention Fethiye Oludeniz Baba Mountain in general, it is easy to reach the summit with a height of 2000 meters and there are 4 takeoffs facing different directions on it. The most important feature is that it is located in a temperate region in terms of temperature and wind. Thanks to the Taurus Mountains surrounding Babadağ, it is a very favorable meteorology for paragliding protected from harsh winds. At the same time, the fact that it is located at the seafront with a height of 2000 meters and is surrounded by anabatic, katabatic winds makes it suitable for flight. Baba Mountain started with the holiday adventure of a British athlete in Fethiye Ölüdeniz in 1979, when paragliding was just spreading to the world. While sunbathing on the beautiful beaches of Ölüdeniz, he noticed the mountain and started the flight adventure of Baba Mountain. Thanks to the fire observation tower on Babadağ, the road to the summit started to attract paragliding pilots in a short time. With the increase in interest in the field of sport aviation in our country in the 1990s, Baba Mountain has become one of the most popular flight areas in the world.
Thanks to these and many other reasons, Fethiye Ölüdeniz Baba Mountain is one of the best flight areas in the world without exception and is renewing itself day by day and is used as a window to the sky by people who are devoted to this sport. With the hope that one day everyone will fly....
**Update 2024**
Paragliding in Ölüdeniz changed a lot. Still a very beautiful, easy place to fly. Nice and helpful local pilots and personnel in contact with tourist pilots. Probably best place in the world to make a SIV.
But: One flight costs now 15€. i.e. cable car (Teleferik) 5€, takeoff fee 10€. This is 50% increase in € (not in TL) from 2023.
IMPORTANT: Tandem pilots making non professional flights (e.g. husband flying with wife or children) can only make one flight every 5 days. This is not a joke.
There is no workaround as all flights must be registered in Internet and frequent checks on the take offs occur.
The concept is to protect the agencies from their pilots making private deals with clients.
MEDITERRANEAN REGION
The road from Fethiye to Ölüdeniz through the pines is 14 km. At the end of the hilly road, you suddenly come across a magnificent blue. This is Belcekız Bay. When you walk along the sandy beach stretching through the bay, you see the unique Ölüdeniz. Oludeniz is like magic, it just stands still. There is not even a single moss on the bottom, it is covered with white sand. The light refracted by the water and the sand at the bottom gives it a turquoise color. The shadow of the pines falls on Ölüdeniz and enriches this impressive turquoise. The name Belcekız is also based on a legend. In ancient times, ships passing through here would anchor offshore and take a boat to the shore to get drinking water. One day, when the young, handsome son of an old captain went out to the bay to get water, he saw the beautiful Belcekız. As soon as he sees her, he falls in love.
The girl's heart is on fire. But the young man has to take the water and return. The ship sails away. Belcekız always watches the shore, her lover. The young man comes to take water every time the ship passes by. So they meet and make love.
One day, as the ship was passing by, a storm broke out. The boy tells his father that there is a sheltered, pool-like cove here. The old wolf knows about his son's love affair. He thinks that his son is willing to destroy the ship to see his beloved.
The fight between father and son grows with the waves. Just as the ship is about to hit the rocks, the captain throws his son overboard with a stroke of the oar and clings to the helm as he sees the situation. The sea turns and enters a bay like a sheet. The boy dies there. Belcekız, who was waiting for her beloved on the rocks, also throws herself off the rocks and dies. Since that day, the place where the girl died is called Belcekız and the place where the boy died is called Ölüdeniz. The sea, whose color changes according to the progress of the day, is perhaps burning for a boy and a girl.
An area of 950 hectares in Ölüdeniz was declared Kıdrak Nature Park and taken under protection. This area, which covers Ölüdeniz Lagoon and Kıdrak Beach, is also within the SIT zone and special environmental protection area.
The Kumburnu Day Rest Facilities within the area are operated by MELSA Ltd. Şti. affiliated to the Muğla Governorship. There are one large and two small cafeterias. In addition to the sale of fast food type food and beverages, pancakes are made in the oriental corner. There is also a picnic area for those who want to have a picnic.
But barbecues are forbidden between May and October. It is possible to rent sunbeds and umbrellas. Parking lot shower-WC services are free of charge. The parking lot is under control with security cameras and guards.
There is also a water sports (canoeing, parasailing, water skiing, banana) business on the beach. For those who are curious, there is also a handicraft sales place belonging to MELSA. Handicraft products of Muğla region are sold.
Care is taken to clean and protect this extraordinary piece of nature. With the laboratory established, daily measurements of sea water are made throughout Belcekız Beach.
Transportation:
It is possible to reach the town by land, sea and air. There are regular bus services to Fethiye district from centers such as Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir. If you prefer the airway, the nearest airport is Dalaman Airport, 55 km away. The distance between Fethiye and Oludeniz is 14 km and there are regular transportation opportunities from Fethiye to the town.
Cappadocia University's Slot Service Center Fethiye Branch was opened in Fethiye-Babadağ Flight Area, which is the most important paragliding center of Turkey.
With the decision of Fethiye District Sportive Tourism Board and the approval of Fethiye District Governorate, Slot Service Center Fethiye Branch started its activities as of July 13, 2020 in order to ensure aviation safety in Fethiye-Babadağ Flight Area and to implement the provisions of the legislation published in this context, to collect information on all flights, to create statistical data, to make meteorological evaluations, to ensure the effective use of the flight area capacity and to carry out the works and procedures related to the execution of inspection activities.
The Fethiye Branch of the Slot Service Center, which has been serving in Nevşehir Cappadocia Balloon Flight Area since 2013, aims to make the flight operations of travel agencies and local/foreign amateur pilots operating in the Fethiye-Babadağ Flight Area with a tourism sporting activity license measurable, traceable and auditable.
It is also possible to go to Babadaga with many touristic paragliding tandem companies and cable cars on the coast. You will be able to see everything with your eyes while coming to Ölüdeni̇z where there are many facilities for flying and on the beach.
