According to our information (as of Nov. 2012), the flight ban below is currently lifted again. The known regulations apply (see http://www.roquebrunailes.com/en/local-aerology-roquebrune.htm). Before flying, please check with the club or with pilots from the region and follow the strict regulations so as not to endanger the approval of the flying area.
Attention- The flight area Monaco is currently closed (status 6.10.2011). The local communities have closed take-offs and landings. It's under surveillance.
According to our information, the following regulations currently apply (without guarantee, please inquire on site):
The flight area Mont Gros in Roquebrune will be officially opened on April weekends in test operation. On weekends between 10 and 17 o'clock the take-off/landing area will be open and controlled by local flight instructors:
- Private pilots: Pilot's licence (min Ippi 4), liability insurance
- Schools and Other Commercial: Additional permission from the municipality
- The limited regulations of 20.9.2010 (concerning commercial flying such as schools, test flights, safety training etc.) still apply.
- The start leaders also reserve the right to intervene in bad weather, insufficient pilot skills, material, etc. and to deny the pilot the start.
Outside these supervised times, the starting place is forbidden and a notice will be posted at the entrance.
At the southern end of the Alpine arc lies Monaco, worth seeing. Here the rich and the beautiful meet and especially in winter the paragliders. Outside the summer months you can land at the beach of Roquebrune. The view over the Principality and the Cote d'Azur is super - in terms of flying it is also princely.
Already early there are enough updrafts and thermals. Some conditions have to be observed (bathing beach is not always landable, flying over antennas / military installations as well as over the city of Monte Carlo is forbidden). Start direction south / southwest / southeast. The main starting area is spacious (mats). The emergency landing possibilities are poor. The landing site at Roquebrune on the beach is challenging to approach (narrow but long). Beware of offshore wind. Be sure to look first. Lots of work on weekends. Super: A shuttle runs from the railway bridge opposite the landing site to the launch site for little money. Club Info: http://www.roquebrunailes.com/
