Familiarization required, is a must have!!Only per Shuttlebus or walking allowed.
The challenging natural launch site is steep and quite short. The set-up area is sufficient for about ten kites.
First flat, then steeply sloping, challenging starting point in a forest aisle. A grid ramp is available for hang gliders.
The Schriesheim / Ölberg site is an attractive flying site on the edge of the Odenwald, but it is not easy.
With westerly winds, hours of soaring are possible here.
Conditions to be observed!
The approach sector to Mannheim Neuostheim Airport is located directly above the take-off area and is designated as a safety area.
Staying in the safety area is prohibited.
The paraglider must be pulled up when launching from level flight.
The decision to abort take-off must be made at very short notice.
Steep slope edge and take-off in a deep forest aisle.
Strong turbulence is to be expected, especially when the wind direction is S to SW.
Pilots in Schriesheim therefore need flying experience and good glider handling.
The 7 meter long and steep kite ramp is located in the same forest aisle directly on the edge of the slope.
Hang gliders can easily be launched here in SW to WNW winds, but also in zero wind.
Paragliders and hang gliders land together on the same 210m long landing field, taking into account the different flight speeds.
With the latest high-performance kites, landing must be mastered with a precise landing turn.
In order to become familiar with all the general conditions and requirements for a good flight, a briefing is mandatory for both paraglider and hang glider pilots before their first flight.
Pilots who want to fly on the Ölberg must have held an A license for at least one year.
