Flat north launch site above the summit station of the gondola lift. Kössen is undoubtedly one of the flight centres of paragliding and hang gliding. The Unternberghorn offers beautiful take-off places and the landing meadow is generous. There is also a great infrastructure with a cable car and the famous Sepp Himberger flying bar not far from the old double-decker. In the flyer bar you can find information about the flight area (also hazard warnings) and current weather reports. The area is used by flight schools for high-altitude flight training. Meadow launch and kite ramp below the mountain hut and above the mountain station (ten minutes). Huge, flat launch meadow to the left above the mountain station (approx. 15 min. walk) behind the mountain restaurant. Ramp for kites. Please note: starting ban from 19 o'clock 16.08.2023: Unfortunately, the Andelsbuch mountain railroad has ceased operation! Andelsbuch is probably the best-known site in Vorarlberg in aviation circles. The often laminar upslope wind and the resulting soaring conditions have become well known in flying circles. In the spring months in particular, the thermal conditions on the edge of the slope are also not to be sneezed at. Beautiful meadow slope towards west/northwest. The grass cone of the Hohe Salve offers excellent flight conditions. Early in the year you can find thermal updrafts here. Take the mountain railway from Söll or Hopfgarten to the Hohe Salve. All starting places are in the area of the summit. Please use only the new official landing site! This is located approx. 500m from the valley station Söll, approx. 80m west of the lowest parking lot, and is marked by a clearly visible wind vane. Main launch site in front of the Markbachjochhütte. The Wildschönau is a great terrain for beginners and pleasure pilots. The area is not exposed to the Inntal valley wind and is therefore conveniently located. A large starting meadow directly below the managed mountain hut and a large landing meadow guarantee a relaxed flight. Main launch site 50m above gondola station Meadow launch site above the mountain station. Wonderful flying area at the west end of the Wolfgangsee. From St. Gilgen the cable car leads to the Zwölfehorn. Climbing up from the mountain station, you reach the north launch site. A second launch site facing northeast is located a little further east. The mountain is well laid out and is often used for training. The view over the Wolfgangsee is fantastic. The landing site in St. Gilgen is located above the main road and is easy to reach on foot. The meadow is large but slightly sloping and can become thermally demanding in the afternoon. Hohe Wand 1

There are two takeoffs: the most common one is the 'Oststartplatz' (east-TO) which is about 15 minutes walk from the 'Postl' car park. It is used for NE-SE winds, a clearing in the woods, so it may be turbulent if the wind comes over the trees (danger here!).The other takeoff is the 'Suedstart' used for SE-S winds, a cliff launch just a few 100 m south of the Postl-Restaurant. You should know what you are doing if you launch there. From Gasthof Postl it is a 10-minute walk and you are rewarded with a wide meadow start flanked by forest. Large launch site directly below the summit of Neunerköpfl. The Tannheimer Tal is certainly one of the most beautiful high valleys in Europe. Whether beginner or cross-country flying crack, here, just behind the Austrian border, the paragliding and hang-gliding community meets with great pleasure. Still, it's almost always civilized. The east and west starting positions are only a stone's throw away from the mountain station. The landscape offers a feast for the eyes. Schöckel 2

One of the two most frequently used launch sites: A ten-minute walk from the mountain station in an easterly direction. A wooden signpost at the mountain station points to this launch site ("Startplatz Süd"). There is a hang-glider launch ramp roughly in the middle of the slope, which offers space for about 3 gliders side by side. Sufficient wind indicators are available. As in any other flying area, the gliders should only be laid out in "full gear". This avoids unnecessary congestion and discussions! SO launch site simple. At Schöckl, the Alps run out to the east. This is why it is a particularly attractive flying area for paragliders and hang-gliders not far from Graz. The mountain railway transports the pilots upwards. From there an entertaining footpath to the main launch site (southeast). It is strongly recommended to visit the landing site before the runway ascent. It is quite big, but falls off to the south. It's not that easy, especially in thermal conditions and at the same time landing pilots. Attention must be paid to cable cars, roads, car parks and cables. Alternatively, you can land on the dragon landing site further south. Pay the landing fee at the club (currently 4 € - 2010) or at the cable car in the restaurant. Cross-country flights are possible, but not so easy. The maximum height is limited due to the near control zone Graz. Be sure to inform your local authorities about the SRA Graz and the control zone. For reasons of game protection, it is not allowed to start before 2 hours after sunrise. End 2 hours before sunset. An interesting flying area. Emberger Alm 1 - Thermiktreff

Large flat area with space to lay out the glider and sort the lines. Medium-steep grassy launch slope with a kite ramp on the left and space for 3 gliders on the right. Not entirely safe, especially for paragliders, if there is no wind from the front: risk of accident! Be careful in westerly winds due to leeward trees! There is a hut right next to the launch site which is open during the day and has an up-to-date flight weather report from Austrocontrol Steep meadow launch site in wide forest aisle for hang gliders (ramp) and paragliders. The Emberger Alm in Greifenburg is one of the top areas in the Alps for flying. The conditions are ideal. A super infrastructure combined with a scenic and thermally attractive flying site. Therefore the flying scene meets in Greifenburg. Every year competitions and countless XC flights with hang gliders and paragliders are held here. The Drau Valley also offers good conditions for cross-country flying novices with sufficient off-field landing possibilities (please always land only on mowed meadows). Flights into the Puster Valley are possible, but not easy. Meeting point is the Fliegercamp at the landing site. From here with shuttle to the take-off site Emberger Alm with 1100 m altitude difference or to other take-off sites in the area. Large meadow and space to set up at Emberger Alm. Takeoffs only with downwind. With west wind danger of turbulence. The large landing area is located directly at the Fliegercamp. Attention power lines! Pay attention to landing voltages. Wonderful meadow launch site on the left hand side before the turning loop of the Gaisbergstraße. The summit plateau of the Gaisberg can be easily reached by car all year round via the Gaisbergstraße. It accommodates around the far visible antenna 3 wonderful nature launch sites in direction north, east and west. Most of these are aisle launch sites. The control zone of Salzburg Airport determines the airspace of the Gaisberg aircraft. Each pilot is therefore required to fly in a disciplined manner in order not to endanger the beautiful and unique flying terrain. Despite the restrictions, the Gaisberg has an undreamt-of potential. In spring and early summer the one or the other Vario may cheer you for the remarkable climb values. Due to airspace restrictions, cross-country flights to the south are concentrated over the Osterhorn Group. But also flights to Obertraun and back to the Gaisberg of more than 100 kilometers have already been flown. If you can't find any updrafts in front of the take-off and above the round, wooded mountain ridge, you can take a look at the Perler beard on the flight path to the landing site, which you can't see from up here, and hope for climb values. Whoever succeeds in entering one of the updrafts will be faced with unforgettable flights along the Zillertal towards the Inn Valley or even into the Pinzgau. A difficult bottleneck here, however, is the Gerlos pass, which is only a side effect. The breathtaking view from the mountain road over the Zilletaler Alps and the main Alpine ridge is a blessing for body and soul, even if it is not possible to fly or only a glider of a mere 1,400 metres is inside.
